About Christie Castner

I am a psychotherapist that has extensive experience working with people of all ages; young children through seniors. I offer therapy in a variety of forms; individual, family, couple and group sessions.

I am a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. My career as a psychotherapist started over 15 years ago in Santa Barbara, California, where I worked for a non-profit agency. My work in Santa Barbara focused on treating trauma, depressive/anxious mood disorders and helping to improve family relationships. In 2012, I relocated to the beautiful First Coast where I worked for a nationally recognized, award-winning non-profit agency. In this setting, I had a variety of positions: residential therapist, school-based therapist and outpatient behavioral health therapist. My time at this agency focused on working with runaway teens, children from abusive environments, along with treating adult concerns including family relationship issues, life transitions, trauma, grief and marriage/relationship conflict.

My experience in non-profit agencies has given me the expertise to work with people of various ages, struggling with a range of concerns, and from a diverse set of backgrounds, socioeconomic settings, and family structures.

In addition to practicing therapy, I interpret neuropsychological assessments. These assessments help to identify cognitive issues such as memory impairment, attentional disorders, and reasoning deficits.

I truly love what I do. I am constantly in awe of the people I meet and the bravery they show in their journey to confront issues and lead a more balanced and satisfying life. A strength is my ability to draw on different therapeutic approaches and interventions in order to meet the client where they are at. No two people are the same and everyone has different needs at different times. Additionally, the genuine empathy and sense of humor that I bring to therapy assists in building the therapeutic relationship.

In my work, I draw on different therapies and interventions to fit each individual’s need. The various types of approaches that I use include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Trauma Focused
  • Attachment Based
  • Psychoanalytic
  • Reality Therapy
  • Solution Focused
  • Rogerian
  • Gestalt
  • EMDR
  • Family Systems
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Dialectical (DBT)
  • Emotionally Focused
